Situated in an 1876 farmhouse, the Children's Museum at Yunker Farm was originally built for Newton Whitman and his family. Whitman was a farmer and he and his wife had 8 children. The bricks that were left over were donated to the community and a school was built on the property as well. In the early 1900s, Whitman sold the farm and farmhouse to John and Elizabeth Yonkers, who moved into the home with their 10 children. The property was eventually donated to the Fargo Park District.
The site is believed to be haunted by a female ghost, possibly Elizabeth Yunker. She loved children and many say she is happy to see that her home was used as a children's museum. Elizabeth's ghost likes to hangout upstairs, where the smaller children would play and do their activities. There have been reports of windows and doors opening and closing on their own, the elevator button being pushed by unseen hands, causing it to go up and down on its own.
Another entity believed to linger here is that of a young girl, who is said to have drowned in the well. Her apparition has been spotted standing next to the well.
